Abstract
This capstone project proposes the development of a peer mentorship program to assist with student transitions across different school levels. The project advocates for a school-wide plan that leverages peer support to create smoother and more positive transition experiences for all students. The initiative aims to mitigate transition-related anxiety, foster a stronger sense of belonging, and enhance overall school involvement among students. To gain valuable insights and feedback on this proposal, an interview protocol was implemented with school administration and staff. The findings from these interviews highlighted existing disconnects between schools during transition periods and recognized the need for increased crossover and collaboration. The feedback from the interviews strongly indicated widespread support among school personnel for a more comprehensive and formalized peer mentorship program, which empowers students by providing them with a sense of community and agency during school transitions.
