Abstract/ Summary
The article explores the experience of some firefighters facing substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD). Topics discussed include alcoholism and mental health illness as social issues in the U.S. and their impact on the fire service, the vulnerability of emergency service providers to develop PSTD and the impact of substance abuse on firefighters' job satisfaction.
